Upcoming Events:

Gene Smith: Managing the Buckeyes Athletic Department

Date: Tuesday, March 6th
Time: 7:30am - 9:00am
Place: The OSU Fawcett Center, Alumni Room
2400 Olentangy River Road, Columbus
Cost: $30 for Member, $50 for Non-Member (Includes presentation, breakfast, and beverages.)

Gene Smith is in his 14th year as Director of Athletics at The Ohio State University. He is widely recognized and lauded among the leaders of his profession, and Smith has been named "one of the most powerful people in collegiate sport".

Smith oversees the nation's most comprehensive, and one of the most successful collegiate athletic programs in the world. By way of example, a recent Wall Street Journal article ranked OSU football as the most valuable college football program in the country, coming in at just over $1.5 billion. This is up an impressive 59% over last year's #1 ranking.

But there's more to his success than just football. The athletics department manages 36 fully-funded varsity sports with more than 1,000 student-athletes. Under Smith's leadership graduation rates increased to 75% (from 65% in previous years), funding to other university programs has reached $39 million (fiscal 2015-16), and a Forbes article recognized the OSU athletics department as one of the 10 best organizations to work for in sports.

VIP Columbus Blue Jackets Experience for Dartmouth Alumni

Date: Saturday, March 24th
Time: 3:00pm - 9:00pm
Place: Nationwide Arena
200 West Nationwide Boulevard, Columbus
Cost: $150 for Member, $175 for Non-Member (Includes VIP reception, behind-the-scenes tours, heavy hors d'oeuvres, non-alcoholic beverages, and game tickets. Cash bar will be available.)

Competing for the championship again this year, the Columbus Blue Jackets are members of the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). Last year, the Blue Jackets won the most games (50) in franchise history. Fans are excited about this season as the subscription base has increased by more than 1,000 to over 10,000. Also, the Blue Jackets had their best season-ticket renewal rate ever — 96%. And the team's average rating on FOX Sports Ohio surged to a league-high by 118% last season, to a respectable 2.09. So, what accounts for the team's success and how will Blue Jackets executives ensure its momentum?

Join Dartmouth Club of Central Ohio members and guests, along with our friends from HBS and Yale, for VIP and behind-the-scenes experiences as the Columbus Blue Jackets face off against the St. Louis Blues.

Our afternoon starts in the exclusive Founder's Club, where alumni will gather for cocktails and ample networking. Joining us will be Blue Jackets’ senior executives for panel discussion about all things hockey, including topics — transferable to other organizations — like, The Columbus Blue Jackets as a Revenue Generating Enterprise, and Identifying and Managing Strategic Partnerships, and How Technology Has Changed the Fan Experience, and How Technology, Broadcasting, and Video Capacity Has Changed How We Watch the Game, and How Do Green Screens and Dasher Boards Work?

Scheduled speakers include:
• Cameron Scholvin, Chief Revenue Officer
• Marc Gregory, Vice President of Digital Marketing
• Becky Coffey, Senior Director Partner Activation & Premium Service
• Andy Hookman, Production Manager
• Greg Murray, Columbus Blue Jackets Arena Announcer

Following the executive panel will be an in-depth, behind-the-scenes tour into the heart and soul of the Nationwide Arena that most people never get to witness. Alumni and guests will visit private suites, the Party Tower, the Lexus Lounge, the Zamboni Tunnel, the video production rooms, the Press Room and Sky Terrace, and more before returning to the Founder's Club for more cocktails, heavy hors d'oeuvres, and networking.

Afterward, alumni and guests will head to our seats to see the puck drop, and watch Blue Jackets battle it out against the St. Louis Blues.
